Apple MacBook Pro 14 - Greatest Laptop
Apple MacBook Pro 14 - Greatest Laptop
Right now, the MacBook Pro 14-inch is the greatest laptop for creative workers available.
It has incredible battery life and is the greatest screen you'll find on a laptop anywhere.
This is the laptop for everyday use, but for video editors, programmers, music producers, and photographers, there aren't many better options.
The MacBook Pro 14-inch, the smaller of Apple's two new MacBook Pros, is now available in stores, and it hasn't disappointed. This is hands-down the best laptop for creative workers we've ever tested, combining the best form and power that Apple can summon in a compact shell, powered by a choice of the M1 Pro and M1 Max, Apple's most astounding chips so far.
Apple has previously placed aesthetic over utility, resulting in previous MacBooks having only the absolute minimum of ports in order to remain thin and light. This time, Apple has not only listened to (finally) its users, but it has actually adopted their suggestions.
1- Specifications:
- CPU: M1 Max 10-core / Apple M1 Pro 8-core.
- Graphics: Integrated 14-core – 32-core GPU.
- RAM: Up to 64GB.
- Screen: 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display.
- Storage: Up to 8TB.
2- Design:
Many of us have been yearning for a MacBook Pro facelift for years, and the MacBook Pro 14-inch finally delivers.
This is the most substantial change to the lineup in years, and Apple appears to be passionate and enthused about the MacBook Pro once again – and that excitement is contagious.

The most noticeable design difference is the bigger 14.2-inch screen, which is nearly an inch larger than the 13.3-inch display offered by the MacBook Pro 13-inch. This extra screen real estate is cleverly utilized, giving you a slightly larger workspace than the 13-inch model without greatly expanding the laptop's overall size. The 14-inch MacBook Pro might be the perfect compromise if the 16-inch MacBook Pro is too big and the 13-inch MacBook Pro is too little.
The resolution has been enhanced from 2,560 x 1,600 on the 13-inch to 3,024 x 1,964, resulting in a pixel density increase from 227 to 254 pixels per inch (PPI). Not only is this screen larger, but it's also sharper.
The dimensions are 12.31 x 8.71 0.61 inches (31.26 x 22.12 x 1.55 cm), which isn't much bigger than the 13-inch MacBook Pro's 11.97 x 8.36 x 0.61 inch proportions (30.41 x 21.24 x 1.56cm). Given the increase in screen size, this is quite astounding.
Apple, on the other hand, has included a notch around the webcam, which is one of the most divisive design decisions in recent memory.
3- Performance:
Here are the results of our benchmark tests on the MacBook Pro 14:
- Cinebench R23 CPU: Single-Core: 1,533.
- Multi-Core: 12,370.
- Geekbench 5 Single-Core: 1,766.
- Multi-Core: 12,514.
- Battery Life (TechRadar movie test): 15 hours and 58 minutes.
- Handbrake (1080p, Fast): 71.32 fps.
- PugetBench Photoshop: 804 points.
While the new design of the MacBook Pro 14-inch is one of the most intriguing aspects of this device, the hardware modifications Apple made beneath the shell are even more so. We were blown away by Apple's M1 chip, which debuted in the 13-inch MacBook Pro last year. It was a confident and successful showing for Apple's first try at its laptop silicon, after previously relying on Intel components, offering the MacBook Pro 13-inch (M1) and MacBook Air (M1) adequate power to edit 8K footage while simultaneously boasting outstanding battery life.
So when Apple announced not one, but two new CPUs during the launch event for the MacBook Pro 14-inch, we sat up and took note. The M1 Pro and M1 Max are also included in the MacBook Pro 14-inch and provide significantly better performance than the M1.
Regardless of which processor you choose, the M1 Pro and M1 Max are significant improvements over the existing M1 chip, which wasn't bad, to begin with.
The M1 Pro (in our review device) has a dual-chip design that enables up to 32GB of unified memory and has a bandwidth of 200GB/s, about three times that of the M1.

4- Webcam and microphone:
Because many of us are making more video conversations with friends, family, clients, and coworkers as a result of working remotely, it's fantastic to see Apple make changes here as well. We finally have a 1080p webcam on a MacBook, which is a significant improvement over Apple's previous 720p hardware. Not only that, but this camera has a lens with a larger aperture, allowing more light in and reducing background noise (that weird, static-like fuzz).
The camera's lowlight performance is two times better thanks to a bigger image sensor with more efficient pixels, so you won't need any fancy lighting to look your best. The quality of the webcam in video conversations wowed us during our time with the MacBook Pro 14-inch. Face ID features would have been excellent, allowing us to log in just gazing at the webcam (like we can with newer iPhones or Windows Hello-compatible webcams on Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices).
5- Battery life:
When Apple announced the MacBook Pro 13-inch (M1), it stated that it had the greatest battery life ever in a MacBook, which our tests validated. So when Apple said that the 14-inch could top the 13-inch by a whopping seven hours, we couldn't wait to give it a try.
The MacBook Pro 14-inch, according to Apple, can last up to 17 hours when watching full-screen videos and 11 hours when browsing the web wirelessly. We discovered that it lasted a very amazing 15 hours and 58 minutes in our battery benchmark tests, where we played a looped 1080p film until the battery died, which is not far off Apple's 17-hour claims. In the same test, the 13-inch MacBook Pro (M1) lasted 13 hours and 22 minutes.
This increase in battery life is remarkable, especially given how much more powerful the laptop is. Apple has worked hard to increase the efficiency of its M1 Pro and M1 Max CPUs, resulting in a powerful workstation laptop that can be used for a full workday and still have battery life left.
As previously stated, the fact that unplugged performance is limited means that for the first time, you have a laptop that can handle some fairly intense workloads when on the battery. Even the most powerful Windows laptops can't match that.
The MacBook Pro 14-inch comes with a new power adaptor that can charge the battery to 50% in just 30 minutes. It meant that when we were using the new MacBooks and the battery did drop low enough that we needed to charge it, we didn't have to wait long to get it back to 100%.
6- Pros and Cons:
Pros:
- Outstanding performance.
- The best laptop screen.
- Long-lasting battery.
- A large number of ports.
Cons:
- For some, the screen may be too small.
- Excessive for most users.
Conclusion:
The Apple MacBook Pro 14 is a high-end laptop with excellent build quality, great performance, and long battery life. It boasts one of the greatest displays on the market and continues to set the standard for touchpads. However, it costs substantially more than comparable Windows laptops.
