Dell G5 5090 - Gaming Desktop

If you keep your games in the full-HD range, the Dell G5 5090 ($570 starting; $1,050 as tested) is a fairly strong gaming PC. 

This gaming PC can easily handle both demanding games and work duties, and all you need is a single screwdriver to upgrade it in the future.

The cheapest G5 5090 configuration has quite basic components, while the much more expensive one we evaluated can't offer 4K gaming or a lot of storage capacity.

Nevertheless, the G5 5090 is one of the greatest computers on the market, with a lot to offer the full-HD population.

If you don't want to construct your PC, the G5 is competitive with the top gaming PCs in its price range.

1-Specifications:

• Graphics Card: Nvidia RTX 2080.
• Storage: 1TB SSD + 2TB hard drive.
• Accessories: Dell optical mouse and multimedia keyboard.

2- Design: 

One thing I like about the G5 5090 is how it keeps things basic on the outside but yet has some personality.

The chassis measures 14.5 x 12.1 x 6.7 inches and weighs 18.6 pounds.

If you have enough space, you can put it right on top of your desk, but it's also durable enough to live on the floor without being mistakenly kicked over.

An attractive crosshatch pattern and a diagonal blue LED strip can be found on the front. I liked the LED, but I was unhappy that there was no option to dim it or alter the colors without getting into the BIOS.

The clear side panel, on the other hand, is something I particularly enjoy about the chassis. 

On the G5 5090 left side, there's a clear, rounded plastic rectangle that lets you see the machine's inner workings at all times, softly lighted by the aforementioned blue LED.

It's a nice design, and it might theoretically allow you to detect hardware issues without ever having to open your computer.

3- Gaming performance:

While I'm still not convinced that a 1080p-optimized laptop is worth more than $1,000, the G5 5090 excels in its niche. On Very High graphics settings, this PC played Far Cry New Dawn at 79 frames per second, Middle-earth: Shadow of War at 65 frames per second, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 42 frames per second.

Even consoles can run this game at 60 frames per second, thus the Tomb Raider performance is a little underwhelming (albeit not with perfect consistency).

Compare these values to our category averages: 88 frames per second for Far Cry, 123 frames per second for Shadow of War, and 96 frames per second for Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

In terms of quality, the Dell G5 5090 performs admirably. With most of the settings turned up to Ultra, I played Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, Overwatch, World of Warcraft, and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales.

The games never went below 30 frames per second, and most of them were closer to 60. Throughout the process, the G5 5090 remained quite silent.

The Dell G5 5090 delivered a good gaming experience, though I wouldn't trust it with 4K or even QHD resolutions.

4- Software:

Bloatware isn't a problem for the G5 5090.

You receive Windows 10 Home Edition as well as some regular Dell applications, such as firmware updates, customer assistance, and USB-C display optimization, among other things. While this program didn't get in the way while I was testing the system, I did disable a lot of it to preserve RAM.

The computer's free trial of McAfee Antivirus did get in the way.

This service is included for free with the purchase of a G5 5090 (or most Dell PCs). That's a good gesture, but I'd still uninstall the software straight away.

With the Dell G5 5090, It has amazing productivity features as well as smooth performance for 1080p gaming.

The chassis is attractive, the software is simple to use (with one major exception), and it is reasonably priced for a gaming PC.

5- Verdict:

A 4K console offers more performance for the money than the Dell G5, but our setup is a wonderful fit for gamers who want to get into the PC market but aren't quite ready to construct their machines.

This gaming PC is also more future-proof than a traditional console, thanks to the G5 5090's easy upgradeability.

The Dell G5 5090 is capable of handling both intensive gaming and productivity duties, but its specifications are lacking.

6- Pros and Cons:

Pros:

• Affordable prices.
• Excellent chassis.
• Quick Processor.
• A striking covenant case with a side window lighted by LEDs.
• Extensively configurable.
• The price of a commodity.

Cons:

• Software that comes preinstalled can be inconvenient.
• Not recommended for QHD/UHD gaming.
• The geometric presence panel may not be to everyone's taste.
• The 512GB of storage on the test form is a little thin.

Conclusion:

If you keep your games in the full-HD range, the Dell G5 5090 is a fairly strong gaming PC. This gaming desktop is capable of handling both demanding games and productive work.
